Rust Boat Raid Calculator

Pick the boat and get the real cost to break it — every explosive, ranked by sulfur, with the cheapest option first. Tugboats, RHIBs, submarines and the PT Boat all take different amounts of the same explosive, so this asks which boat rather than asking for a number.

Why this asks for the boat, not its HP

Every other boat calculator asks you to type in a hit-point total and divides it by a fixed damage value. That looks reasonable and produces wrong answers, because damage in Rust isn’t constant across vehicles — each one has its own armour profile:

TargetC4 damage
Tugboat770
Motor Rowboat1,100
Boat hull (building block)495

Same charge, three different numbers. So a tool using a single damage table is only correct for whichever target that table came from. Feed a tugboat’s 3,000 HP into one built around the 495 figure and it says 7 C4; the real answer is 4. That’s three wasted C4 — about 6,600 sulfur — on a raid where the boat can drive away while you farm it.

We store the amount for each boat as sourced data and never do arithmetic on an HP figure, so this page can’t make that mistake.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many C4 for a tugboat in Rust?expand_more

4 Timed Explosive Charges. A tugboat has 3,000 HP, but you can't work the answer out from that number alone — every vehicle takes a different amount of damage from the same explosive, so the count has to be sourced per boat. 16 rockets or 11 HV rockets also do it.

What's the cheapest way to raid a tugboat?expand_more

HV rockets, on sulfur — 11 of them. C4 is far fewer items (4) and much faster to place, so if the owner is online or you're being watched, the sulfur saving isn't worth the extra time in the open. Cheapest and best aren't the same question.

How many rockets for a RHIB?expand_more

3 rockets, or 1 C4. A RHIB has 500 HP — the same as a Solo Submarine — but the two don't cost the same to break, which is exactly why a single HP box can't answer this.

Why not just enter the boat's HP?expand_more

Because damage in Rust isn't constant across vehicles. C4 does 770 damage to a Tugboat, 1,100 to a Rowboat and 495 to a boat hull — the same charge, three different numbers, because each entity has its own armour profile. A calculator that takes one HP figure and divides by one damage value is only right for whichever boat that value came from, and quietly wrong for all the others. Picking the boat is what makes the answer correct.

Can you raid a tugboat while someone's inside?expand_more

Yes, and that's the usual problem. A tugboat is a mobile base — the owner can simply drive it away mid-raid, which is why placement time matters more here than on a static base. It's also why people take C4 over the cheaper HV rockets despite the sulfur.

Do torpedoes work on boats?expand_more

They do, and they're the naval-specific option — a tugboat takes 12. We don't list them in the table above because we don't yet have a verified craft cost for them, and a method with no cost would sit at the top of a sulfur ranking for the wrong reason. We'd rather leave it out than fake the number.

Boat HP and raid amounts sourced per entity from wiki.rustclash.com (browser-verified, July 2026) — the same source as our loot tables, and it independently agrees with the raid data we already publish. Priced with the same function behind the main raid calculator, so the two can never disagree. Game data verified for the July 2026 wipe. Torpedoes and cannonballs are omitted deliberately: the amounts are sourced (a tugboat takes 12 torpedoes) but we have no verified craft cost, and a costless method would top a sulfur ranking for the wrong reason.
