How to Get Rust Twitch Drops
Rust drops are free skins for watching Rust on Twitch. The whole thing takes about two minutes to set up, and then it's just watch time. There's a round live right now — see what's in it.
1. Link Twitch to Steam
Go to Facepunch's official drops site and connect both accounts. You need an account on each — that's the only requirement, and you don't have to own Rust yet.
If one of your accounts is already linked to a different account, you can unlink it by signing into that account first, then linking fresh. This is the single most common thing that silently blocks drops for returning players.
2. Watch a Drops Enabled stream
Open the Rust category on Twitch and look for the Drops Enabled tag. Not every Rust stream counts — only tagged ones do, and this is the other big reason people watch for hours and get nothing.
Watch time stacks. You don't need to sit through it in one go, and you can switch channels freely — progress carries across any Drops Enabled Rust stream. What doesn't work is running two streams at once; Twitch only counts one at a time.
3. Claim it in your Twitch inventory
This is the step people miss. Earning a drop doesn't give it to you — once the watch timer completes you have to go to your Twitch Drops inventory and actually press Claim. If you never claim it, you never get it, and once the round ends that's gone for good.
4. Check your Steam inventory
The skin lands in your Steam inventory a few minutes after you claim. It isn't always instant. If it hasn't appeared, check the Steam inventory in your browser rather than in-game, and restart Rust if you had it open.
When drops don't show up
Work through it in this order, because it's almost always one of these:
- Not claimed.Check your Twitch Drops inventory — earned isn't claimed.
- Stream wasn't eligible. No Drops Enabled tag means no progress, no matter how long you watched.
- Accounts not actually linked. Re-check on the official drops site — a lapsed or half-finished link looks the same as no link.
- Round already ended.Unclaimed drops don't survive the end of a round.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why are my Rust drops not showing up?expand_more
Nine times out of ten it's one of three things: the drop was earned but never claimed (watch time alone isn't enough — you have to press Claim in your Twitch inventory), your accounts aren't actually linked, or you're watching a stream that doesn't have Drops Enabled. Check the tag on the stream first, then your Twitch inventory, then your account link.
How long does it take for drops to show up in Steam?expand_more
Usually a few minutes after you claim on Twitch. It isn't always instant — if it's been a while, restart Rust or check your Steam inventory directly rather than looking in-game.
Can I watch two Rust streams at once to get drops faster?expand_more
No. Twitch only counts watch time from one stream at a time, so a second stream earns you nothing. Pick one Drops Enabled channel and leave it running.
Do I need to buy Rust to claim drops?expand_more
No — you can link your accounts and earn drops without owning Rust. The skins sit in your Steam inventory and are there waiting if you buy the game later.
My Twitch account is linked to someone else's Steam account. How do I fix it?expand_more
Sign in to the account it's currently linked to and unlink it there first, then link it to the account you actually want. Facepunch's drops site handles the linking on both ends.
Does subscribing to the streamer make drops faster?expand_more
No. Drops are purely watch-time based on any Drops Enabled Rust channel. Subscribing, following and Prime all make no difference to drop progress.
