Timed egg hunts, an egg upgrade chain, and loot that scales from scrap up to an M249.

Seasonal event. The Easter event only exists while Facepunch enables it — typically around real-world Easter in April, for about two weeks. The rest of the year, none of these mechanics are in the game.

How the egg hunt works

While the event is live, an egg hunt kicks off every 24–38 in-game hours. Painted eggs spawn in the world around you and everyone on the server has 3 minutes to collect as many as possible.

The top 3 collectors are rewarded with special eggs that open into better loot. Everyone else keeps what they grabbed — and those painted eggs feed the upgrade chain, so even a mid-table finish is worth playing for.

The egg upgrade chain

10× Painted Egg
→ Bronze Egg
10× Bronze Egg
→ Silver Egg
Silver Eggs
→ Gold Egg

Cracking an egg drops loot ranging from scrap all the way up to an M249 — the higher the egg tier, the better your odds. Whether to crack early or hold for upgrades is the whole meta of the event: upgrading concentrates many small rolls into fewer, better ones.

Event items

  • Egg Basket — picks up eggs instantly instead of one slow interaction at a time. The single biggest edge in a hunt.
  • Bunny Onesie & Bunny Ears — wearable items that grant Egg Vision, highlighting eggs so they are easier to spot during the scramble.
  • Rustigé Eggs — decorative Fabergé-style eggs that stick around after the event as base trophies.

Tips

  • Get an Egg Basket before your first hunt — instant pickup roughly doubles what you collect in 3 minutes.
  • Sprint a loop rather than doubling back; eggs spawn spread around you, so a wide circle beats zig-zagging.
  • You are loot to everyone else during a hunt. On a busy server, hunt with a gun out and eggs in mind, not the reverse.
  • Do not crack painted eggs one by one — bank them toward bronze and silver upgrades for better average loot.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the Easter event in Rust?expand_more

The Easter event follows the real-world Easter calendar, so it usually lands in April and runs for roughly two weeks. Facepunch enables it server-side — outside that window there are no eggs in the game at all.

How do you upgrade eggs in Rust?expand_more

Collect 10 Painted Eggs and you can upgrade them into a Bronze Egg. 10 Bronze Eggs upgrade into a Silver Egg, and Silver upgrades to Gold. Higher-tier eggs open into better loot — the range runs from scrap all the way up to an M249.

What does the Egg Basket do?expand_more

The Egg Basket lets you pick up eggs instantly instead of stopping at each one, which is the difference between winning and losing a 3-minute hunt. The Bunny Onesie and Bunny Ears give you Egg Vision, which makes eggs easier to spot.
