Rust Livestock

Turns farming into ranching: cows and sheep can be caught in the wild, penned behind new animal fences and gates, bred for better genes like plants, and milked, sheared or butchered. Milk can be chilled and skimmed into Cream for stronger teas, grown animals and wool sell to a new bartering vendor at the Stables, and a Biofuel Generator finally turns raw or spoiled meat into low grade. Last month's Power Plant grid now unlocks loot rooms at many more monuments, the Air Wolf vendor at Bandit Camp won't sell aircraft until players repair its helipad, and Sandbag Barricades stack into a four-stage pillbox.

What's new in Livestock

›Cows and sheep added as farmable livestock: both give dung, cows give milk, sheep give wool, and all can be butchered for meat, bones and leather
›Livestock carry genetics and needs like plants and can be bred toward better genes, though the genes don't behave exactly like crop genetics
›New animal fence and gate deployables for penning livestock
›Grown cattle and sheep sell to a new vendor outside the Stables for a randomised offer based on gene quality — reject three offers and the vendor won't buy for 15 minutes
›Wool trades in at the same vendor, with offers scaling on how much you bring at once (up to 400)
›Milk refrigerated for 4 hours can be skimmed into Skimmed Milk and Cream; milk lengthens tea effects and cream strengthens them, with new Creamy and Milky teas
›New foods: Beef and Mutton meat, Shepherds Pie and Beef Pie
›Biofuel Generator converts raw or spoiled meat into low grade fuel, but needs stirring by hand roughly every 30 minutes
›Power grid loot rooms added at Airfield, Ferry Terminal, both Harbors, Junkyard, Launch Site, Military Tunnels, Missile Silo, Radtown, Sewer Branch, Train Yard and Water Treatment Plant, each needing a set number of Heavy Fuses at the Power Plant
›Heavy Fuse decay now scales with population: fuses last 4x longer with 10 or fewer players online, back to normal at 100
›The Air Wolf helipad at Bandit Camp starts each wipe broken; the vendor won't sell air vehicles until players hammer resources into it, and it stays repaired for the wipe
›Sandbag Barricades stack in four stages up to a pillbox, are cheaper to craft, drop from loot in stacks of 4 and stack to 20
›Decorative frogs, rabbits, squirrels, sea turtles, crabs and jellyfish added around the island
›Grenades, C4 and satchels are now client-predicted, so throws feel smoother on high ping
›Oil Rig crude pumping now takes 15 minutes to start producing, and the Water Wheel's melee protection is roughly 4-5x stronger
›Machete gets a new model and animations; all four Ladder Hatch variants are this month's workshop skinnable
›Optional new Rust Render Pipeline under the experimental settings tab, plus memory savings from shared viewmodel hands (~100MB) and on-demand store assets (~250MB at boot)

Release date

Livestock released on 1 October 2026. Named Rust updates ship on the first Thursday of the month and land alongside a force wipe, so this is also the day every server's map reset. If you're working out when the next one lands, the wipe timer tracks it.
