Rust Drone Controls
Flown remotely from a Computer Station — name the drone, register it, fly it through the camera feed.
The keys
| Input | Does |
|---|---|
| Hold E on the drone | Set its identifier (case-sensitive) — this is the name you'll register at the station |
| Hold E on a Computer Station | Mount it, type the drone's identifier, click Add, then click it in the list to take control |
| W / S | Forward / backward, relative to where the camera faces |
| A / D | Strafe left / right |
| Mouse | Steer — the drone moves relative to the camera direction |
| Left Shift | Ascend |
| Left Ctrl | Descend |
| Right Mouse | Drop the carried item directly beneath the drone |
Before it moves
Craft one (200 Metal Fragments + 1 CCTV Camera, Workbench Level 2), deploy it on open flat ground, hold E to name it, then fly it from any Computer Station. The drone itself needs no fuel or power.
What goes wrong
- !Control range is limited — roughly 250–500m depending on server config — and the feed degrades to pixelated black-and-white as you approach the edge before cutting out entirely.
- !It's fragile: clipping a tree or wall damages or destroys it, and SAM sites and auto turrets will shoot it down.
- !Movement is camera-relative. W goes wherever the camera points, not a fixed compass direction — turn first, then move.
