Large Barn is one of 10 monuments you can clear with no keycard and no radiation protection, and it has a recycler on site — so scrap goes in the recycler where you find it rather than riding home in your inventory. The nearest equivalents are Oxum's Gas Station, Abandoned Supermarket, Mining Outpost.
Overview
Large Barn is the second of the two horse monuments, alongside the Ranch — Facepunch introduced both in the same update as the place to "acquire horses". You buy a Saddle from the Stable Master and use it to claim one.
As at the Ranch, examine before you commit: the update is explicit that horses have different stats and that you should "press E to examine each horse before claiming your steed".
